Skinny Feeling Monday….do you feel it? I must have changed my mind about leggings…

1 Oct

About a year ago I posted on my blog a post regarding my reluctance to leggings worn on daily basis by anyone…well I think I changed my vision about it…just a bit.

https://annainherwonderland.com/2011/10/28/leggins-no-please/

Probably because since I discovered my new favourite brand, Forever 21, while in US and soon discovered that this amazing retail store came on the other side of the Atlantic as well I started to appreciate leggings and skinny jeans more than I used to….I bought this pair of simple basic blue leggings last month and they are soft, comfortable and kind of flattering as well (with a long t-shirt) than now I am not afraid to wear leggings on the outside world anymore…I have even started to travel in leggings and I love it!

I have gone skinny today as well, rocking a brown coated Zara Trf jeans and my beloved red Vans shoes….

I need to go for a shopping spree soon with one of my friend and at the moment I have these three items in my wish list…go on skinny!

Have a great Monday !

The adventures of Anna, an Italian girl feeling alone in her “nearly” home country! Friend-dating anyone?

13 Apr

A few days ago I found an interesting article in Grazia, my favourite magazine, and I recognized myself straight away while reading it. This article is titled Er, will you be my friend? And it explains the story of Rachel, New Yorker born that at 25 years-old moved to Chicago to live with her fiancé, now husband, and how she struggles to meet new friends. I thought I was reading my story, just set in the US instead than in the UK!

The only difference between me and Rachel is, I have not started yet to friend-dating…I do struggle so much with meeting people in England, in over three years I have been here I have met amazing people, thanks to the wives and girlfriends of my husband’s friends (it does sound a bit like WAGs), I met an amazing girl here that I can consider my British best friend to whom I wish all the joy of this world on her engagement…but still, sometimes, I struggle, I want to meet more people, and make friendships. I notice that when I go shopping (on my own) I even try to chat up the person who works at the cashier in Zara, H&M, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer, male or female does not matter… today I even did at Steamer Trading cook shop in Brighton, I bought a kitchen scale and when I was about to pay the girl at the cashier asked me if everything was ok, if I found what I was looking for etc, I thought How nice! So I started to chat her up saying Yes I found the scale I wanted but I wanted to buy the vintage style one but my husband does not like so I am buying this one…the girl very nice went blank for a few seconds, probably thinking:

WHY are you telling me this? And she replied politely…I mean what did I do wrong with trying to do a bit of conversation? I was not going to ask her out anyway!!! Is it the language barrier, is it the different culture or is it something else? It cannot be the language barrier, my strong Italian accent we all know is strong but it’s very understandable when I speak, it is not only the usual stereotype that British people are not friendly and Italian people are…because thinking about Rachel Tutto il mondo e’ paese (all the world is a town, everywhere is the same, like my good old grandmothers would say) because it happens the same ANYWHERE, Chicago, Brighton and Hove and God knows where else! WHY grown up people do not want meet new people and they just want stay in the circle of known friends instead than expand new horizons? Sometimes I could do with another British friend or a couple more….you know just fancy to see my best friend for a coffee in my situation could be an expensive double espresso… flying to Italy just for a quick meeting! Or I could do with a friend while shopping instead than use an imaginary one…luckily I learnt how to control myself from my compulsive hysteric lonely shopping : I try anything that gets my attention, go to the changing room, try all on and think about … what would someone else say about? Today as you can see I tried a pair of orange faded skinny jeans with zip on the ankles and a pair of Chanel inspired mint green shorts in Zara…luckily my imaginary best friend said no!

But luckily he/she did not say no to my Versace style or sofa cover inspired tops from H&M!!!

Going back to the article on the friend dating…if anyone feels lonely like Rachel or Anna, in the south east of England area….please let’s meet up!!! 🙂

How can I find the right pair of jeans after my favourite one passed away?

17 Jan

Unfortunately ten days ago when we were away I had to wave farewell to my favorite pair of jeans, I was sad. I bought this Cycle jeans during the sales in 2006, paid a lot and worn them until they went from dark blue to white and I had to give up completely when I sat on the sofa and they broke completely on my bum…luckily I was at home and only my husband saw that.

The trouble now is…I cannot find the right pair of jeans that can fit me properly! Most jeans around the shops are just super skinny, let alone the jeggings…I do not like them, they make me look like I have a Kim Kardashian’s bum!

Shall I scroll through my wardrobe then? Just to remember!

Sisley black and suede colour jeans, skinny, but not too much.

I used to wear Jacob Cohen jeans, still have 3 or 4 pairs that I wear to go to work, a bit faded all of them!

Diesel Matic jean…lovely

This Zara high waist jean from the 2008 season are awesome, I love how they fit my legs, shame that they are not that comfortable…it takes ages to undo the buttons if you need to pee!

One of my last purchases, j brand skinny in emerald green, I love!

Actually yesterday I realized that there are the sales going on at the moment on the high street and I found this jeans in Zara for 14.99, could I leave them there? No way, I didn’t have a pair of brown jeans…shame that I had to buy size 36 instead than my usual 34…hate this 2kg I put on!!

I’m sure I have a few more pairs somewhere, all saints, Hollister or something else. So..have I got enough jeans for the moment? My mum will say yes…but please help me with your jeans recommendations!!!

These ZARA boots are made for walking

19 Oct

These boots are made for walking,

and that’s just what they’ll do

one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

I have been looking for a few days all around the High Street for a pair of winter boots, I wanted something warm but pretty, something with heel (I was’t going to wear them everyday anyway) but I couldn’t find nothing that caught my attention, when today I walked in Zara in Brighton just to have a look and I saw these boots, I fall in love for it  and when I saw the price tag…well I fall in love even more, only £ 49!!

They are confortable, quite high (11,5 cms./ 4,53 inches) but easy to walk in, and the sheepskin is going to keep me warm, thank ZARA, again!!!

Weddings and green should never be seen…F***off!

25 Sep

Last night we went to a friend’s wedding for the evening and I actually wanted to wear a pale pink dress but unfortunately after been eating too much in Miami the dress didn’t fit me so I had to go for my favourite choice of colour, GREEN! This dress is the best thing I have ever found in ZARA, the best 49 pounds spent in all my life!

Well apparently according to the superstition green is a very unlucky colour for a wedding, never heard of that but if Pippa Middleton worn a green dress last week as you can see in the article

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2038650/Pippa-Middleton-Another-wedding-time-dress-fashion-faux-pas.html

Plus our bride was wearing a fuchsia going purple wedding dress….so I think every colour is allowed!

I wish all the happiness to Mike and Helen, you deserve it!

I didn’t know the first song they played for their first dance, but I knew the second one and I was going to cry,  Whitney Houston always affects me with I will always love you… I was looking for my Kevin Costner and of course, he was at the bar…so I had to drive at home, after a few glasses of wine, too many for my idea…but well I’m still here!

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Tiling, sunbathing, eating, what an hard life!

14 Sep

New experience for me today, my husband made me help him again in the kitchen (nearly done finally) and I did some tiling over the main wall, first time in my life, so last year I painted the walls when we bought the apartment, this time the tiling, I’m scared what’s going to happen next! Well maybe I should get an extra shopping trip somewhere because I’ve been a good wife, how strange to say that!

After that by the pool again, I can’t believe Thursday evening we are going back home, feeling sad already! Met a few really nice people here at Flamingo and I can’t wait to come back here in November, from Friday on I will start the countdown! Back to Ikea to take some pieces back and what’s up for us for dinner? We found an Argentine Steakhouse on the top of Lincoln Road and the dinner was spot on as usual! Wednesday as it is our last night here we go for a treat dinner after all our efforts at Cecconi’s, can’t wait! I’m definitely getting fat, can’t fit in my stripy Zara short!
