Anna vs Fitness, bring it on in Brighton at #FitnessFirstDropIn , gym bunny anytime soon? Squat you!

26 Feb

Dear Readers

I hope you are all well, I am currently settling back into the British winter after been away for a bit of Floridian winter in Miami, jet lag is not affecting me as much this time luckily, I have my dog alarm clock in these mornings that wakes us up pining and barking….yes Coco is having a phantom pregnancy and she is so hormonal and crazy now…oh it sounds familiar, a bit like me!!

Anyway after having a great time in sunny Florida hanging out at the Boat Show by the old marine stadium in Key Biscayne, seeing friends, boating around and eating out a lot we came back home to reality, and to an event I attended last Tuesday and I have to tell you all about.

Karma is such a b••••…as you guys remember on my previous blog post talking about fitness, diets, fitness DVDs, dry January and so on … and two days after publishing it I get invited to a Fitness blogging event, And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think? As Alanis Morissette would sing

I must admit I was excited and scared at the same time to go this meeting at the Fitness First Gym in Brighton…I am totally not a gym bunny and walk through a gym full of people kinda scares me a bit, because I wouldn’t know where to look or let alone where to start!

I put my gym gear on and I took the train down to Brighton where I was welcome by very nice and friendly people who showed me and the other bloggers around the facilities of the gym, I am a bit claustrophobic and see the staircases going down and down made me a bit nervous, but once down in the gym area I didn’t feel UNDERGROUND at all, I couldn’t believe how busy it was, 6pm on a Tuesday, all these people working out?! Madre Mia, I would normally be at home playing around in the kitchen and getting ready for an aperitif!

Me and the lovely Natalie from Tea Cake and Make were assigned to personal trainer Sam, who was really nice, friendly and kind to us, we had a chat before start to know us a bit better about what we are used to “gymwise”, if we had any sort of injury or problems that needed to be addressed before start and he make me feel comfortable to go down that staircase and walk through the Gym’s door.

Mind you I still feel my legs sore three days after but I really enjoyed the workout, apologise for the sweaty pictures, I can totally say that I hate lunges with all my heart because I struggle to find my balance and the abs exercises were hard but effective, as I left the Brighton club feeling shaky on my journey home.

After working us out Sam spent more time with us to reply to all our questions and I really enjoyed the way he was explaining us the work of a personal trainer, the importance of a good diet and the importance of a good balance in life, which is totally my philosophy.

Before this event I must admit, I was rather sceptical about personal trainers in general, maybe let’s blame the social media…but I couldn’t understand why people would just get one, even one assigned by the gym not chosen by the person, and why would they totally do what they say to do, eat what they say according to their “meal plan” and totally trust somebody that would just call them Honey or Darling just because they have so many clients and they can’t remember your name (and maybe even developing a crush on the PT in the meantime…sad women!) but I must say, Sam with his 11 years experience of personal training in England and in Australia made me see things in a different way and we could totally get on and agree on working out as a lifestyle choice to feel better, not just to show off on social media that you are developing a slight beginning of abs, or ass and showing the word of Instagram that you are drinking a protein shake….I do not have a problem with gym bunnies but MODERATION is the key, OBSESSION is something I would steer clear from.

Would I get a personal trainer myself? Of course not, but I would totally recommend Sam at Fitness First in Brighton if you guys are looking for one! I will keep on doing my weekly classes when in the country, use my complimentary passes soon and keep on enjoying life as I always do, even with or without abs, the world of social media can carry on even without my Motivation Monday or Transformation Tuesday, as I haven’t got nothing to transform as I am happy and body confident and I do not need to have the approval of anybody.

Thanks a lot for the experience #FitnessFirstDropIn

Have a great weekend

Welcome to my February, time to plan more trips & stop the New year resolutions / January nonsense, #BeHappy

1 Feb

Dear readers

I am sorry I haven’t been posting recently, I have been too busy settling back into the British winter after the holidays spent in Italy and Miami, I am back, for a bit, as usual.

The Christmas time back home with friends and family was amazing, good times, lots of laugher and lots of food involved…not that many people can say they had an 8 hours long Christmas lunch…I can! And when you are about to give up and say Thank you guys but we have been sat for 7 hours, ok the company is great but…And they stop you saying: Next course it the Italian cheesecake (gorgonzola, brie, mascarpone and walnut cake)…followed by panettone and pandoro with coffee mascarpone, what did I do? Just gave upend kept on eating!!!

Italians express their love with food, and that’s what my family does best and I love that, overindulging over Christmas is great but of course it can’t be the normal routine, but what about the pressure everybody gets put under between the New Year and the end of January? Resolutions, dry January, start working out, be kind to people, get better at something…I mean take it easy!

Life is all about balance, we only have one life so please enjoy and make the most of it…plus shall we talk about what happens at the beginning of January?! The release of fitness DVDs!!! Oh My Lord…is that something worse than that? Z-list celebrities who used to be fat and wobbly and suddenly they become gym bunnies, personal trainers addict, food connoisseurs and they tell you: I lost 3 stone, 19 kg, 42 pounds whichever weight conversion floats your boat, YOU CAN DO IT TOO, in the comfort of your living room!! Yes right people exercising in front of the telly in their workout gear, it will happen for a week and they will get bored and quit! Really I can do it too? And you would tell me what to eat too then to reach the perfect body? I don’t follow recipe books, I always add my own touch, let alone to listen to you whoever you are, famous or not, you ain’t a dietologist so why would I bother?!I am very happy with my height & my weight so please, social media stop bombarding us with Are You Beach Body Ready type of messages? Lots of people get sucked in!

Anyway this is my 1st February rant…I am sure I have posted something similar in the past few beginning of the years, this is what I think and I stick by…Italian Style!

Did I mention that I received a pasta machine for Christmas? I love it!!! So if somebody says No Carbs are allowed, my reply can only be one…bugger off!

And of course I am not criticising people who exercise a lot or go to the gym or whatever, not at all, I love fitness classes like body balance, pilates, yoga and body pump, I do lots of them once or twice a week, or once every fortnight it depends…I just get bored easily and I can’t stick to something that long, that’s why I like to do different things to keep me motivated, I do it just to keep busy and toned…but if I don’t do it for a day it ain’t the end of the world, I just go for an hour long dog walk/run, it’s always exercise!

Going back to the travelling side of my post…we had a great time in Miami over new year, as usual, and I seriously cannot wait to be back in a week to escape from the cold weather, it makes such a difference to have some sunshine in the winter, total mood lifting!

And now let’s just have a look at what went on in the past few months

Christmas and the holidays between Italy & Florida, going back to the cold British weather, birthday with friends & toddlers, and a dog photoshoot!

with love

Getting the wedding blogging fever, my latest thing! Anna in her wonderland between wedding planning, food & fitness

6 Feb

Dear readers

I know it has been a long time since my last post but January has been filled with lots of events, good and bad ones that the time just flew away and I finally find myself here at the beginning of February to post again to discuss my latest projects.

Wedding season is going to kick-start soon and it’s time to get ready with my clients to get all the paperwork and the boring bureaucracy part out of the way to focus on the details of the big day, flowers, food, decorations and so on…from this I got contacted by an Italian wedding blog for whom now I am writing tips for the future brides and grooms, it’s so exciting and fulfilling to have free pass to write about anything I want…shame that I do struggle to write the post in English and Italian, the Italian part takes me ages… since when I have nearly forgotten to write in my own language? Crazy!

So if you guys want to read my latest post for the Italian wedding blog Panorama Sposi here we go the links:

First post

Music for your wedding, 12 beautiful songs

Second post

Valentine’s day, love, flowers and a bit of S&M thanks to 50 Shades of grey the movie

This new project is really exciting for me but I haven’t forgotten my first love, my blog anna in her wonderland! Everybody is glad that January is over and despite the cold weather and the sporadic snow sometimes, I am already focusing into spring and I have been exercising a lot, more to keep my mind busy than anything else but it’s working, I feel already better and more full of energy, but so hungry all the time! Luckily I don’t need to lose any weight otherwise it will be a bit pointless do all that exercise and stuff my face after (but in a healthy way!)

Coco my lazy dog is always on my side keeping me company between a nap and the other, luckily I have her next to me!

Well guys I hope you will enjoy my wedding related post on Panorama sposi and have a great weekend you all!

Come and dine with me…our own version! So many things to look forward to this weekend…I can’t wait!

27 Apr

Come Dine With Me is a popular Channel 4 television programme shown in the United Kingdom, produced by Granada Television (now known as ITV Studios) and first broadcast in January 2005. The show has either four or five amateur chefs competing against each other hosting a dinner party for the other contestants. Each competitor then rates the host’s performance with the winner winning a £1,000 cash prize. An element of comedy is added to the show through comedian Dave Lamb, who provides a dry and “bitingly sarcastic” narration.

The format has been taken up by many other broadcasters throughout the world…and by us as well. My husband and I, and a couple of good friends now instead than go out for dinner in swanky restaurants or local gastro pubs, we discovered the pleasure (and the effort) of inviting people around, experimenting new recipes and of course, enjoy the time spent together while enjoying an homemade dinner and a good bottle of wine. Last night was “the other couple come dine with me” and we really enjoyed dinner!

I prepared myself for lunch with just a healthy and big salad after have been to the gym (I am trying so hard in these days at the gym to be in shape for our holiday), been running errands all day and finally it was dinner time!

Salmon with asparagus and potatoes and cream pie…gorgeous!!!

Pudding was so good, I must admit I was a bit worried when I saw bananas going around the kitchen (I eat bananas only when they are green or I do not digest them), but my worries went away as soon as I taste the banana, cream and chocolate cake…so good…well done Joe and Becky, our turn again very soon!

I was a bit sad yesterday, after three years spent together my beloved car had to leave me…how can you get close to a car? I don’t know but I did!!! Goodbye Tinkerbell….

I have been working out again today and I probably I will do it again tomorrow and even on Sunday, I can’t feel my arms right now I’m struggling to write!!! Miami…here we come soon!!!I wish an amazing weekend to everyone!

Been working my ass off at the gym all weekend…now it’s time to fly to Miami!!!

4 Mar

We are finishing now to pack and tomorrow morning at 9.40 we are off to Miami for ten days, I cannot wait and I hope all the sweat at the gym is going to pay back…can’t wait for a bloody mary at the pool bar at the Mondrian, can’t wait to go for a walk on the ocean, can’t wait to go up and down the bay on the boat…come on I cannot wait until tomorrow!!

Nearly fainted twice at the gym today…once when I finished 20 minutes on the treadmill…and the other time when I walked inside the changing room and this lesbian lady was standing near the door talking to the personal trainer just on her knickers…nice!!!!

Luckily Pit-bull and Chris Brown were making enjoy the workout with this song…I am obsessed with!!
Hotter than Miami
I feel the heat

Going a few days back…have you seen me cooking on Friday night? Loved this new recipe, aubergines stuffed with pine nuts, tomatoes, spinach and mozzarella…!

Everywhere today has a different name, Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day, Mardi Gras…I just know it’s FAT TUESDAY and I’m on a fricking diet!

21 Feb

After 4 days of indulging and enjoying the time in Italy with my family and friends, yesterday I came back home to my husband, left a rainy Milan, got on the busiest Easyjet flight ever…does anybody work on a Monday afternoon instead than flying from Milan to London??

Came back to my gorgeous husband who bought for me a frog made of soap…I love frogs!!

Plus he cooked for me sausages and mash…just to go back to the British traditions, trouble is…I’m getting old, and despite my high metabolism I’m putting some weight on and I’m not happy. I’m probably 2 kilos more than my right weight…please do not slag me off I know it’s nothing but…I’m going to be in my bikini in 13 days lying down overlooking Downtown Miami so…I want my perfect weight back!

That’s why I just came back from the gym where I sweated my ass off on the crossramp…hopefully I’m going to lose weight not become a mini body builder with thick thighs … I just need to focus less on food and focus more on the gym and diet…without becoming like her!

BUT I am struggling today, it’s Martedi Grasso, or Fat Tuesday and I miss my Aunt Tina’s chiacchiere…and I miss dress up, and I miss the Carnival in Venice…OMG!!

Right…Anna just focus…and think about dinner time!!!

Walking out the Spa in flip flops because the pedicure done when is zero degree C (or 32 F)…priceless! For all the rest there’s mastercard…pampering day!

3 Feb

So last night I left the post saying about my cake I had baked yesterday when I went back home…it was edible, I’m still alive, so is my husband…and as soon he arrived at home last night he wanted to taste it, and he liked it!! Am I turning into a domestic goddess? Not really!!!!

I don’t know what’s up with me, I’m kind of getting obsessed with food, looking for new recipes all the time, trying to mix up the ingredients I have in the fridge…well luckily I started to work out or with the amount of food I eat I will be so fat soon!

So the menu last night was chicken breast with crème fraiche cheese wrapped up in Parma ham and as side we had asparagus wrapped up in Parma ham…well I had to finish it anyway so the ham had a good use! I’m really proud of my improving in cooking, it always lovely to hear Kim going “MMMMMM” so do I!

Friday, freezing cold but nice and sunny again, did a short workout at the gym, had pedicure and eyebrows done, it’s so nice and warm in the spa that I thought: I will be fine, I cannot ruin the pedicure just done so I’ll go home in flip flops…wauuu…100 metres to arrive to the car and I was frozen!!!

What’s the best thing to do to warm yourself up when you get home? A nice cup of tea, and a piece of my cake…luckily I work out!!!

Have a good weekend everyone, enjoy!

I feel beaten up…by the Jacuzzi! Second time lucky at the gym…the boring adventures of Anna in Her housewife wonderland!

2 Feb

I started to think that I’m getting quite boring at the moment, I’m not sure if it because a temporary “lack of creativity” due to the fact that I spend a lot of time at home or what…maybe I just need to hit the town more, go to London more often but still…I’m not sure this is going to be the solution.

Well…if anyone is interested on my day today I did my second session at the gym, it was good but I’m taking it so easily and slowly…10 minutes on the crossramp …making me feel my bum getting bigger instead than smaller! 12 minutes on the bike…3km after my heartbeat was nearly 200 but it felt good and I finished off with 10 minutes on the rowing machine…well to be the second time in my life I go to the gym it wasn’t bad! Trouble is after that I relaxed too much in the Jacuzzi…but it was so good!!! I’m taking the exercise seriously, I’m going back tomorrow as well…(because I have pedicure and eyebrow shape booked at the spa…but I will work out as well!)

Back home, back from the supermarket, baked a cake…planned a nice dinner…I think I need an holiday!!

Haven’t tasted the cake yet, if I survive to my own baking or not I’ll let you know tomorrow!

Workout, cleaning, painting, planning a dinner…and people think I do don’t a damn all day long!!

31 Jan

Being at home and a full time housewife seems an easy life, getting up late, going out for lunch, go to the beauty salon, cook something for dinner, well it’s not what I do!!!

I forced myself today and at 12.30 after have been working and cleaning I decided to hit the gym for my first session!!! Still have a bit of a cold but I’m getting better, my first 35 minutes of workout at the gym today I couldn’t believe! I do feel great now, but I’m sure I will be in pain tomorrow!

My husband asked me to do some paint, which I did, and now I was scrolling through recipe books to decide what to cook tonight, It’s not even 5pm but just reading through all the recipes I’m feeling so hungry! Luckily I decided to use the upstairs area as my office…because if I was in the kitchen right now I could have already attacked the fridge!

I had a visit this morning….a fox at the front door, I got so scared luckily I was inside! Still cannot get over the fox that last year mauled two babies in East London … ok this fox was tiny but still…I should ask for a rifle for my next birthday, so I can start hunting in the garden…foxes, rabbits, pheasant…Love the British countryside!!!

Have a good evening you all!
