Anna vs Fitness, bring it on in Brighton at #FitnessFirstDropIn , gym bunny anytime soon? Squat you!

26 Feb

Dear Readers

I hope you are all well, I am currently settling back into the British winter after been away for a bit of Floridian winter in Miami, jet lag is not affecting me as much this time luckily, I have my dog alarm clock in these mornings that wakes us up pining and barking….yes Coco is having a phantom pregnancy and she is so hormonal and crazy now…oh it sounds familiar, a bit like me!!

Anyway after having a great time in sunny Florida hanging out at the Boat Show by the old marine stadium in Key Biscayne, seeing friends, boating around and eating out a lot we came back home to reality, and to an event I attended last Tuesday and I have to tell you all about.

Karma is such a b••••…as you guys remember on my previous blog post talking about fitness, diets, fitness DVDs, dry January and so on … and two days after publishing it I get invited to a Fitness blogging event, And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think? As Alanis Morissette would sing

I must admit I was excited and scared at the same time to go this meeting at the Fitness First Gym in Brighton…I am totally not a gym bunny and walk through a gym full of people kinda scares me a bit, because I wouldn’t know where to look or let alone where to start!

I put my gym gear on and I took the train down to Brighton where I was welcome by very nice and friendly people who showed me and the other bloggers around the facilities of the gym, I am a bit claustrophobic and see the staircases going down and down made me a bit nervous, but once down in the gym area I didn’t feel UNDERGROUND at all, I couldn’t believe how busy it was, 6pm on a Tuesday, all these people working out?! Madre Mia, I would normally be at home playing around in the kitchen and getting ready for an aperitif!

Me and the lovely Natalie from Tea Cake and Make were assigned to personal trainer Sam, who was really nice, friendly and kind to us, we had a chat before start to know us a bit better about what we are used to “gymwise”, if we had any sort of injury or problems that needed to be addressed before start and he make me feel comfortable to go down that staircase and walk through the Gym’s door.

Mind you I still feel my legs sore three days after but I really enjoyed the workout, apologise for the sweaty pictures, I can totally say that I hate lunges with all my heart because I struggle to find my balance and the abs exercises were hard but effective, as I left the Brighton club feeling shaky on my journey home.

After working us out Sam spent more time with us to reply to all our questions and I really enjoyed the way he was explaining us the work of a personal trainer, the importance of a good diet and the importance of a good balance in life, which is totally my philosophy.

Before this event I must admit, I was rather sceptical about personal trainers in general, maybe let’s blame the social media…but I couldn’t understand why people would just get one, even one assigned by the gym not chosen by the person, and why would they totally do what they say to do, eat what they say according to their “meal plan” and totally trust somebody that would just call them Honey or Darling just because they have so many clients and they can’t remember your name (and maybe even developing a crush on the PT in the meantime…sad women!) but I must say, Sam with his 11 years experience of personal training in England and in Australia made me see things in a different way and we could totally get on and agree on working out as a lifestyle choice to feel better, not just to show off on social media that you are developing a slight beginning of abs, or ass and showing the word of Instagram that you are drinking a protein shake….I do not have a problem with gym bunnies but MODERATION is the key, OBSESSION is something I would steer clear from.

Would I get a personal trainer myself? Of course not, but I would totally recommend Sam at Fitness First in Brighton if you guys are looking for one! I will keep on doing my weekly classes when in the country, use my complimentary passes soon and keep on enjoying life as I always do, even with or without abs, the world of social media can carry on even without my Motivation Monday or Transformation Tuesday, as I haven’t got nothing to transform as I am happy and body confident and I do not need to have the approval of anybody.

Thanks a lot for the experience #FitnessFirstDropIn

Have a great weekend

The fabulous world of cupcakes, one of the latest baking obsession

Keep calm and have a cupcake

The first time I heard the word cupcake was a few years back from my favourite tv series Sex and the city when Carrie and Miranda met up at the now super famous Magnolia Bakery in New York for a really sweet snack with a coffee, what’s not to love about?  Cupcakes were “invented” in the States to make one normal size cake more manageable to fit into a cup…on the go, everywhere, and to be loved, democratically by anybody. Thanks to the worldwide obsession for reality tv show from the British bake off, Masterchef, The Cake boss, The cupcake wars and so on cupcakes are now so popular everywhere and for everyone, they have become especially in England the perfect afternoon tea snack, just to break the tradition of the classic scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, or even instead than a traditional wedding cake…tasty, gorgeously presented and decorated, I am absolutely obsessed with it. I have tried different cupcakes from different places, from Angel food and bakery in Brighton, to Lola’s cupcakes in London’s swanky shopping center Harrods and Selfridges, but to me the best cupcakes ever come from a tiny cute shop on the south east coast of England in the pretty seafront town of Whitstable (close to Canterbury), the cute as button shop is called What’s up cupcakes and it was open by Sarah Young 4 years ago after discovering cupcakes in Dubai, at the time Sarah was looking for business ideas and she thought, “if something like cupcakes sell so well in The Emirates, well it will go everywhere” and in June 2009 What’s up cupcakes opened its cute light green doors to the public and everyone has fallen in love for it. Freshly baked cupcakes from Thursday to Sunday with the freshest ingredients available, Sarah and her cupcakes helpers (mum Sue, Aunty Hillary and cousin Claire) delivered every week the best cupcakes around, flood of tourists invaded the shop at weekends and the orders for weddings and parties were growing day by day, I even used to drive myself for 140km just to get some of my favourite cupcakes, Lady Charlotte, raspberry icing topping on a vanilla sponge with white chocolate, divine! Now Mrs Young got married and retired to family life and the cute shop has been taken over by Tracey, after months of training with the Cupcake Boss Sarah, now Tracey carries on the What’s up cupcakes Empire and the shop is still flying high thanks to her passion for the job and for her love of baking, fresh cupcakes are still delivered every week from Thursday to Sunday and you can see the cupcakes creations by follow What’s up cupcakes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and of course why not to visit the shop if you are planning a day out somewhere in the South Coast of England? Head to Whitstable!! Best of luck to Tracey and her cupcakes team for the future.

I am counting the days till Miami and I am really looking forward to that! Roll on Monday, we can’t wait to leave the Kingdom behind

6 Nov

Dear readers

I’m sorry it has been a while since last time I posted on the blog, as I said before we are working here at home to renovate the interiors and we are constantly busy on that, I am constantly busy on the dog that now has decided to rip apart everything, rugs, mats and even the curtains, when is she going to get over that???And at the moment I am constantly busy thinking about going away on Monday…how many sleep till??? I hate thinking how autumn like the weather is here and I love to think how nice and warm it is in Miami… Plus doesn’t help the fact that my tan has completely faded and that my local sun bed shop has closed for renovations…not good timing!

Halloween has gone by, we “celebrated” it enjoying a night out in Brighton but still, it wasn’t the same of Lincoln road…am I slightly obsessed? Yes I am!! I look forward to lounge by the pool, enjoying the sunshine, enjoy the time with our friends and I can’t wait to eat some Cuban food…I made the Anglo-Italian version of Vaca Frita last week, tasty, but not as tasty as Versailles!

Enjoy the rest of your week guys and speak with you from the Sunshine State next week!

Please take me back to the Cotswold: breath-taking countryside, peace, quiet, sunshine…I might love England a bit more thanks to this beautiful place!

9 May

Hello readers

I spent a lovely bank holiday long weekend with friends in their gorgeous Cotswold cottage and I enjoyed so much, the weather was great, the sun was shining, the friends and their kids were lovely and every time I turned my head I could only see beautiful open fields, gorgeous stone houses and….nothing else, the sound of the silence!!

This is such a beautiful part of the country, so many Londoners have properties here…and if it’s good enough for Kate Moss…it’s good enough for me to brave some country chic!

Coco and her two new friends loved it as well…!

Here we are with some pictures…enjoy!!!

How is it possible something so small can make your heart to skip a beat? Absolutely in love with Coco (Elizabeth Taylor) Collins!

23 Jan

Hello readers

Here I am, really tired but happy, I have always dreamed to have a dog when I was a child, 28 years on I can finally say, yes I have a gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, named Coco (with Elizabeth Taylor as middle name, as a tribute to my favourite TV series ever, Sex and the city). Coco is 9 weeks old of sweetness and madness at the same time, how can something so small and cuddly can make you falling in love so hard?

Luckily I work from home because so far she is taking all my time and efforts…here we are some pictures… and a video from the TV series to remind me of the real Elizabeth Taylor

Still living the American dream…or shall I say the Hispanic dream? Back in cold England but still with my soul in Miami!

12 Jan

Hello readers,

I am really sorry to not have updated the blog for nearly two weeks and first of all I wanted to apologize, unfortunately I was in Miami trying to get our perfect house sorted and the neighbours not always were that happy to give us their internet details, what can we do about? Get the internet sorted…as we did!!

First day back home and I feel like I have a massive hangover and I don’t feel like I even know my name right now, I want to leave forever in Eastern time!

Here we are some pictures of the two long weeks away…I am still trying to learn some Spanish but I think I will need to practise a lot more…a mix of Italian-spanish-english is not the way forward!

Life according to Anna: best friends and diamonds are forever and my best friend shines bright like a diamond!

24 Nov

Hello readers,

I feel completely disorientated and a bit empty right now, my best friend came to visit and we spent nearly four days together 24/7 and now that she has gone back to Italy I feel…strange, and I feel that something is missing in my life. Me and my best friend Anna (so easy we even share a name!) have been best friends for nearly five years and of course with the fact that nearly four years ago I moved abroad the friendship has grown even stronger but probably because we are used to see each other not very often when I fly back home now spending a few days together doing everything, shopping, cooking, drinking, laughing, even gardening…now that she is not is here I feel so confused. The soundtrack of our days was Unapologetic from Rihanna and I do know that my Anna shines bright like a diamond in the sky!

Countdown to Christmas has started…only a month away and I cannot wait to go back to celebrate with my family (and Anna) and I can’t wait to celebrate my Christmas on Boxing day with my husband ( I need help with presents please I am absolutely stuck!) and I can’t wait even more to go away again on the 27th December…have a good weekend you all!

The only way is the Cotswolds, a piece of paradise in the British countryside…let’s brave some country chic soon!!!

19 Nov

I had such a great weekend away in the Cotswolds, for who doesn’t know anything about:

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in southwestern and west-central England, an area 25 miles across and 90 miles long. The area has been designated as the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where every weekend lots of people from London go there to enjoy the countryside and to relax from the chaotic city, so we left on Saturday morning to visit a couple of our friends and their children who own a lovely cottage there and we had so much fun….I must admit despite the cold weather!!! I think I have fallen in love hard….for the little 4 months old daughter of our friends…

Pub lunch, walking in the fields, endless glass of red wine in front of the fire, pheasant for dinner…a visit to the animal farm, a visit to the most gorgeous farm shop ever (Daylesford)…a long drive back from Oxford to home…it was a great weekend!!!

Let’s add some gossip to spice up this post…famous celebrities own houses in the Cotswolds, including Kate Moss, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Hurley, Lily Allen, J K Rowling, Stella McCartney and so on… The first time I went there was the day after Kate Moss got married and I spotted John Galliano walking around the town of Burford, I started to scream in the car when I saw him and very embarrassed he hid himself in the cook shop!

All of a sudden I am back, how did it happen? Florida seems a long memory away! Luckily my Christmas present is coming early this year…and happy 4th anniversary to us!

14 Nov

This morning when the alarm went off at 10.30 I thought…where am I? oh yes I flew back Monday night and here I am, back in England, trying to adjust my body back to Greenwich Time but still thinking on Eastern time! The choice was to come back from Miami Monday night or Friday night, despite how much I love spend time there it was getting too much to take for my on my own, gorgeous place, gorgeous weather but solo…it is not good!

I am back and I am so happy that my best friend is coming to visit next week that I can’t contain myself with joy, that’s why my Christmas present comes early! A full on 3 days of Anna & Anna, we really have a lot to catch up! And do not forget today is my 4th year anniversary with my husband, 4 years together … let’s celebrate!!!

Sunday in the countryside, sunshine, pub lunch and a trip to the farm!

14 Oct

The day began very cold and foggy but luckily around 11am the weather cleared and the chilli sunshine was out, Sunday it is, ready to enjoy the day with a big pub lunch and a walk about somewhere….not much else to do around here am I right?

Here some pictures from the day:

A pet donkey coming soon? Maybe….so we won’t need to cut the grass anymore! xxx
