Clearly time flies when you are having fun! Six months later Anna is back

25 Aug

Dear readers

I seriously couldn’t believe that it has been six months since my last post, where does time go?? Apologies for the lack of posts, I just haven’t realised I have been on the “missing blog person list” for such a long time, thanks to wordpress for reminding me by email on Monday!annainnherwonderland and coco.jpeg

AS I said clearly time goes by too quickly when you are having a good time (Dear Madonna I love your confession on a dance floor album, but how can you say Time goes by…so slowly?! that’s a lie!!)

I have turned 32 last week, so this is the proof that time flies quite fast,as I am not 25 anymore.

I have been travelling and cooking, and the usual stuff as normal but somehow I forgot about the blog, sorry! I have been back and forth from Miami a few times, went to the South of France for a lovely family holiday and went to the Italian riviera to celebrate my husband’s birthday and to spend time with my family, in between aperitifs and dinners!

On a lovely relaxing evening out with Coco overlooking the sunset with a glass of prosecco I suddenly realised, it is time to post something on the blog. I keep well as usual, just one year older damn it…I do have the feeling that people always overshare with social media, me included, and  probably that’s why I haven’t felt like posting for a while, but I am back with some amazing memories of travels  and good times to share with you.

To the next post….hopefully sooner than later!

xx

Long time no see! Anna is back, catching up on the summer and on the latest adventures

23 Oct

Dear Readers

it has been over two months since my last post, which was totally wedding planning related after the beautiful wedding I organised for my clients on the shores of Lake Como,I am still living all the memories of that beautiful day and I am so grateful that I finally received yesterday all the official pictures, looking forward to update my website now!

My summer has been busy between trips to Italy, Miami and Formentera and I finally have some time now to share the latest after such a long time.

I do love my blog and I do love when I people send me emails asking about it and why I don’t post that often but as you guys all know, I am not a:

Fashion Blogger (I wish…and I might try!)

or

Food blogger (I just love cooking)

but I am a bit of “everything goes and I talk about everything” blogger and sometimes I don’t always feel like sharing everything, especially things that goes on in your life… that’s why I don’t post as often and it goes by a few months sometimes between blog posts, but I am here, writing with my new MacBook air, so let’s make the most of it.

Apart from organising the wedding this summer I spent time in Miami with my husband and friends, I went to Formentera with my two best friends, where I totally left my heart…what a beautiful and amazing place to relax and have fun! More italian trips for my birthday and my husband’s birthday down on the Italian riviera, where I turned 31… (where is the turn back time button? I need one!) and more Miami time in September with my husband…we have been back for a month and it feels already like a lifetime!

I am still obsessed with cooking and baking as always, thank God for my great metabolism otherwise I would look like a barrel with all the cooking I get involved in…still totally obsessed with online shopping, please take all the devices away from me (and delete my paypal account!) and Coco, my furry companion, she is always by my side and she might raise to stardom soon, as we were called to go for an interview and photoshoot for a dog’s disease awareness campaign in London…watch this space!!

I am going to add some recent pictures and … keep in touch!!

Have a great weekend

I left my heart on Lake Como, once again! Wedding planning is the way forward, amazing wedding for my clients

31 Jul

Dear Readers

I haven’t been around for a few months and I apologise for that, I did not forget my blog but unfortunately the last few months have been quite busy with travelling and wedding planning and now I am back. I spent 9 days in Italy last week to attend and coordinate the wedding of my British clients which it was absolutely AMAZING!!!

Villa del Balbianello and Lido di Lenno on Lake Como (not far from Laglio, George Clooney’s town) are stunning and the ceremony, the food, the cake, the flowers and the party were incredible, worth the hard months of planning, I just published the THANK YOU to all the suppliers on my website Italianweddinginwonderland.com but I am going to do it here too to give them the visibility they deserve

Maia and Ricky’s wedding, Villa del Balbianello and Lido di Lenno (Lake Como, Italy)

I am so proud to have organized the wedding of Maia and Ricky, a lovely young couple from Brighton, parents to their little gorgeous daughter India, who contacted me in April 2014 when they were travelling around the lake Como seeking for their perfect wedding venue to tie the knot. We have been working closely together in the past 15 months with emails, phone calls and meetings (where I enjoyed cuddle up with India while talking about wedding planning).
Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (2)For their wedding venue they have chosen Villa del Balbianello, a stunning villa that was built in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery for the Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. After the cardinal’s death in 1796 Giuseppe Arconati Visconti bought the villa and made improvements to its gardens and the loggia. In the nineteenth century the villa belonged to the Porro-Lambertenghi family. By the early twentieth century the buildings had fallen into a state of neglect when an American businessman, Butler Ames, purchased and renovated the villa and its garden. In 1974 it was bought by the explorer Guido Monzino (leader of the first Italian expedition to climb Mount Everest), who filled it with rich collections, including artifacts acquired on his expeditions. Monzino, who died in 1988, left the villa to the Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano, the National Trust of Italy. Famous too for its “role” on films including A month by the lake (1995), Casino Royale (2006). The villa was also used for the lake retreat scenes in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002) however CGI was used in place of the building’s true exterior.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (4)The bride and the groom spent some days around Tremezzo and Lenno back in 2014 when the bride was pregnant looking for wedding venues and by recommendation of a restaurant owner from Tremezzo (thanks to Alex at the Red and White restaurant), they visited Balbianello and they fell in love for it and they decided they big day was going to be there.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (3) The catering has been provided by Lido di Lenno, restaurant, bar and club situated just 2 minutes boat ride from Balbianello, venue chosen by the bride and groom to carry on the wedding party after the ceremony and wedding breakfast at the historic villa. I must admit as a foodie I loved spending my time translating wedding menus for my clients, I also had the pleasure to travel to Como with the bride in May to do the food tasting and the food was superb, on the tasting day and even better on the wedding day. The staff at Lido di Lenno is truly professional, precise, friendly and accommodating to all our requests, and I will look forward to work with Diego, Nathalie and their team again in the future and recommend them to all my future clients interested in the Lake Como area.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (5) A huge thanks to Pasticceria Ramperti located in Cermenate (Como) for the stunning looking and tasty wedding cake for my clients. For who doesn’t know this patisserie is very well known, not for nothing George Clooney asked them to make his wedding cake for his Venetian wedding to Amal Clooney, née Alamuddin.

The photographer who worked closely with Maia and Ricky is the British photographer Philip Bedford based in Brighton, who flew the day before the wedding day and captured precious moment of the wedding preparation at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo and in the stunning setting of Villa del Balbianello.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (7) A big thank you for the flowers arrangement made by Barbara Botta Fiori, flower designer based in Cernobbio (Como), the bride wanted a rustic theme using sunflowers and the bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets and the center tables were absolutely stunning and they worked so well with the casual yet sophisticate style of their wedding.

A big thanks to the Ufficio di stato civile at Tremezzina town hall especially to Paola Codara, who has been so understanding and thanks for all your help with the wedding procedure and a huge thanks to Rita Annunziata, the official translator/tourist guide who translated the ceremony with the bride and groom, adding a touch of Italian fun to the day.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (1)

I must mention the boat transfer service provided by Igor De Ascentis, who brought the groom and groomsmen and bride and bridesmaids from Lenno main square to Villa del Balbianello in a wooden boat which gave such a great touch to the whole wedding, and thanks a lot to his colleague Daniel Carminati to have taken all the 60 + guests including me to the venue and back for a mini lake trip before kick starting the party at Lido di Lenno.

Balbianello lake como Italian wedding (7) I am sure I have forgotten someone and if I did please forgive me, I am so pleased about how this stunning wedding turned out, the weather was amazing and we were very lucky despite the weather forecast, I am so pleased to have met and to be now in contact with so many nice people, all so helpful and friendly, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on the shores of Lake Como, where four years ago I got married myself. And what’s better than receive a call from my bride a few days after who said:

“Anna, thank you, Friday was the best day of my life”. Well, this is the biggest satisfaction.

Sometimes I come back! Anna in her wonderland on an Italian Christmas late edition and the mid January (non) New Year Resolution!!

12 Jan

Dear Readers

Sometimes I come back as you can see, I know it has been a while with Christmas, the holidays, the vacation and all that but I am finally back, luckily just for a month, I can’t already bare how cold is back here, I am more a sunny & hot weather type of girl, 100% more Miami than Brighton Beach!

I had such a great and amazing time back home in Italy to celebrate Christmas with my family and my friends, they were 8 full days of fun, laughter, shopping trips, lunches and dinners and lots of dancing in the clubs around my hometown of Bergamo, I felt like 18 again! It is so crazy how just a week spend with the people you love most that unfortunately due to the circumstances I don’t see that often recharged my batteries and gave me a massive energy boost to keep going, so glad to have such great family and awesome loving friends in my life!!!

Touched down back in the Kingdom it was time to celebrate with my husband and leave the cold behind for the sunny shores of Miami, our favourite place on earth, where we just enjoyed hanging out, sunbathing, swimming, eating and drinking, walking the neighbours’ dog (I have the new role of Floridian dog sitter to a gorgeous 7 months old golden retriever), getting the boat ready for the February trip and having fun!!

I have been reading a lot on social media recently about New Year’s resolution…is that me but this year it seems a bit gone too far…I mean so many people are talking about it non-stop…and will they actually “obey” to their NY’s vows? Of course everybody (apart me) feels a bit fat after all the overindulging during the Christmas holidays but a bit of control and a bit of exercises will get everything and everybody back in track, without any drama and without becoming a body builder or a fitness fanatic for a few weeks!

So pleased of my fast burning metabolism, in Italy I must admit all I ate was pasta, tons of pizza and I couldn’t resist to focaccia when I drove down to the Riviera for the day…lots of veggie too but just such a different diet to what I normally cook and eat here…and within 3 days 2kg were gone, where I do not really need to lose weight!! The secret is just happiness and moderation, in everything, and stop going on with all new year’s resolution bullshit, have fun & be happy!

With Love

8 Jul

Dear readers

As usual I am really late at posting updates on the blog, sorry guys I lose track of time sometimes! I spent a week in Italy with my family checking out wedding venues for my next bride and groom to be, so pleased to have had the chance to go over the beautiful Lake Como again, work meeting pleasure is always the way forward! And I spent the weekend enjoying time with the family, going clubbing on the other lake, Lake Garda, relaxing and having fun… sometimes just a few days home recharge my batteries so much to keep on going better and stronger!

Back home I keep on feeling like I need to cook and bake all day, yesterday for example I wasn’t feeling my best but suddenly after dinner I thought..I fancy a cake! Opened the fridge, found two large oranges, butter, yogurt and eggs…one hour later we were all eating orange cake!

I have had my family over last weekend where we spent a nice day in Brighton on a beautiful sunny day, shame Coco is in season and we were chased by male dogs on the seafront…and shame a few days after going back into Brighton I curbed my wheel very badly…my husband wasn’t impressed as you all can imagine, my excuse was “I have had the car for 4 months and this is the first time, I am doing quite alright for myself!”

Anyway I felt boring last week so I decided to change my look, so short bob hairstyle with blonde highlights, I am only a month and eleven days from turning 30…I am probably experiencing a beginning of midlife crisis…and between a cup of tea and a walk with the dog we are getting ready for the next Miami trip, only ten days to go!

Have a good week everybody

The World Cup, the baking and the travelling…Anna in her wonderland is keeping busy!

15 Jun

Hello dear readers

I am so excited over the World Cup that you will not believe, I don’t normally care about football generally but when the World Cup is on I suddenly feel really excited and I feel for my country even more, especially since I have moved to England over 5 years ago…and how better could have the World Cup started for me? England vs Italy, oh my! Shame that my husband is not into football but it was so much fun to watch the match at home with British friends, I was cheering, I was screaming, I was dancing around…I was so happy that Italy won! And I am so pleased to go to visit my family in Italy this week, I haven’t been back since February and I seriously cannot wait to fly back!

I have started to go back to the gym since the Miami trip, with not much success…while I work out I think what I am going to bake later…is that good or not? And of course cooking is still my main hobby right now, the cashiers at the local grocery store might think I am mad, I keep on going in to get more ingredients for my creations! Anyway the summer is here and I must admit the weather has been great lately; hopefully it will keep on being summer!!

Nobody should spend festivities away from the family! I miss my country and I miss my hometown of Bergamo, fancy to know something about? The Bergamo travel edition

23 Apr

Dear readers

I hope you are all keeping well, Easter weekend it’s just gone and despite we achieved so much at home (new patio and decking fitted and more renovations) I must admit I felt really sad to not have been at home in Italy with my family to celebrate Easter, this has been the first time in five years of living abroad that I skipped the Easter trip, and I did feel homesick, I am sure people who live abroad can relate with my feelings…I tried to keep busy with lots of cooking and baking and cuddling the dog but that bloody feeling wasn’t going away!

My hometown Bergamo _ Anna in her wonderland feeling homesick (1)

My hometown Bergamo _ Anna in her wonderland feeling homesick (4)

So…to celebrate my love for my town, why don’t I talk about it? Interested in Bergamo? Here we go!

Bergamo, the undiscovered pearl of Northern Italy

My hometown Bergamo - Annainherwonderland & Catherine Coppens Photography 2

Not that many people know about the existence of Bergamo, for lots of people it is just, “oh yes Milan Bergamo where we can fly into with Ryanair”…Bergamo is much more than a Ryanair route let me tell you.

120’000 People live there, 40km away from Milan using the busy A4 Milano Venezia motorway, 50km away from Brescia and the Lake Garda, 38km away from Lecco (where the Lake Como area begins), 200km to the beautiful city of Venice, well connected internationally with Bergamo Orio al Serio airport and with the most beautiful hilltop medieval town surrounded by defensive walls built by the Venetians to preserve the city in the past from the attacks of the enemies (Bergamo in 1428 fell under the control of the Venetian Republic). Bergamo is known as well as Citta’ dei Mille (city of the thousands, because of its contribution to the Risorgimento, that takes to the Italian unification in 1861).

One of the most visited part of the city is Piazza Vecchia, the old square of the old town, called Citta’ Alta (upper city). This square is always patched with tourists from all over the world and locals, especially the students from the University of Bergamo which is based in the old part of the town. Patisserie, delicatessen shops, restaurants, bars, museums, churches, clothing shops, they is so much history and fun around Citta’ Alta.

Bergamo is a very fashionable city, it does feel the influence of the super fashionable next door neighbour Milano, the young people are image and brands obsessed, they all want to look good and they all want to make a statement everytime they walk into the latest bar to hang out and be seen, the “Bergamaschi” mingle at every occasion, lunch break, aperitif, dinner, after dinner, there is never a good excuse not to enjoy what the city offers!

If you fancy a bit of retail therapy Via XX Settembre it is the place to be, the shopping district of Bergamo bassa (the lower and newer part of Bergamo), you can have a nice and civilised breakfast at Balzer cafe, an institution in the city, you can get the funicular/cable car to go uptown to Citta’ Alta or you can walk up the long staircase that takes you to the old town, crowded with tourists and students…and what about the local food? There are so many local delights in the many trattorias and restaurant around, a must have for me is Casoncelli alla bergamasca (ravioli Bergamo style, stuffed with meat, pinenuts, herbs, amaretti and god knows what’s more) and coniglio con polenta taragna (rabbit with cheesy polenta), after a few days in Bergamo you might be a few pounds heavier but if you visit the city you cannot avoid the food experience that the city has to offer. Bergamo is always been a rich city, thanks to the many companies who used to serve the city and the big extended province of Bergamo. There is something particularly special about the city itself…the people are friendly, always up for a laugh and a drink, the sun does shine quite a lot, you might just need a moped and off you go to discover this beautiful place.

Now you all please book a flight and go to enjoy my beautiful hometown that I love and miss so much!

Anna goes to Italy : Feliz Navidad…Buon Natale…Merry Christmas from my wonderland!!

24 Dec

Hello dear readers

And Happy Christmas to everybody! I came back home to visit my family on the 18thand, despite I miss a lot my husband (and the dog) I am loving being back home, spending time with the family, hanging out with my best friends, enjoying evenings out, enjoying mulled wine, traditional food from my hometown, Bergamo, which I love deeply and just being happy to be back !!

I am seriously obsessed with the song Feliz Navidad right now, constantly on repeat on my iPhone, so I can try to learn something more in Spanish, just to practice for the next Miami trip, just in a few days, I can’t wait!!!

I wish you all merry Christmas and Happy New Year….and I will post from Miami!

Enjoy the holidays everybody
