Anna vs Fitness, bring it on in Brighton at #FitnessFirstDropIn , gym bunny anytime soon? Squat you!

26 Feb

Dear Readers

I hope you are all well, I am currently settling back into the British winter after been away for a bit of Floridian winter in Miami, jet lag is not affecting me as much this time luckily, I have my dog alarm clock in these mornings that wakes us up pining and barking….yes Coco is having a phantom pregnancy and she is so hormonal and crazy now…oh it sounds familiar, a bit like me!!

Anyway after having a great time in sunny Florida hanging out at the Boat Show by the old marine stadium in Key Biscayne, seeing friends, boating around and eating out a lot we came back home to reality, and to an event I attended last Tuesday and I have to tell you all about.

Karma is such a b••••…as you guys remember on my previous blog post talking about fitness, diets, fitness DVDs, dry January and so on … and two days after publishing it I get invited to a Fitness blogging event, And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think? As Alanis Morissette would sing

I must admit I was excited and scared at the same time to go this meeting at the Fitness First Gym in Brighton…I am totally not a gym bunny and walk through a gym full of people kinda scares me a bit, because I wouldn’t know where to look or let alone where to start!

I put my gym gear on and I took the train down to Brighton where I was welcome by very nice and friendly people who showed me and the other bloggers around the facilities of the gym, I am a bit claustrophobic and see the staircases going down and down made me a bit nervous, but once down in the gym area I didn’t feel UNDERGROUND at all, I couldn’t believe how busy it was, 6pm on a Tuesday, all these people working out?! Madre Mia, I would normally be at home playing around in the kitchen and getting ready for an aperitif!

Me and the lovely Natalie from Tea Cake and Make were assigned to personal trainer Sam, who was really nice, friendly and kind to us, we had a chat before start to know us a bit better about what we are used to “gymwise”, if we had any sort of injury or problems that needed to be addressed before start and he make me feel comfortable to go down that staircase and walk through the Gym’s door.

Mind you I still feel my legs sore three days after but I really enjoyed the workout, apologise for the sweaty pictures, I can totally say that I hate lunges with all my heart because I struggle to find my balance and the abs exercises were hard but effective, as I left the Brighton club feeling shaky on my journey home.

After working us out Sam spent more time with us to reply to all our questions and I really enjoyed the way he was explaining us the work of a personal trainer, the importance of a good diet and the importance of a good balance in life, which is totally my philosophy.

Before this event I must admit, I was rather sceptical about personal trainers in general, maybe let’s blame the social media…but I couldn’t understand why people would just get one, even one assigned by the gym not chosen by the person, and why would they totally do what they say to do, eat what they say according to their “meal plan” and totally trust somebody that would just call them Honey or Darling just because they have so many clients and they can’t remember your name (and maybe even developing a crush on the PT in the meantime…sad women!) but I must say, Sam with his 11 years experience of personal training in England and in Australia made me see things in a different way and we could totally get on and agree on working out as a lifestyle choice to feel better, not just to show off on social media that you are developing a slight beginning of abs, or ass and showing the word of Instagram that you are drinking a protein shake….I do not have a problem with gym bunnies but MODERATION is the key, OBSESSION is something I would steer clear from.

Would I get a personal trainer myself? Of course not, but I would totally recommend Sam at Fitness First in Brighton if you guys are looking for one! I will keep on doing my weekly classes when in the country, use my complimentary passes soon and keep on enjoying life as I always do, even with or without abs, the world of social media can carry on even without my Motivation Monday or Transformation Tuesday, as I haven’t got nothing to transform as I am happy and body confident and I do not need to have the approval of anybody.

Thanks a lot for the experience #FitnessFirstDropIn

Have a great weekend

Welcome to my February, time to plan more trips & stop the New year resolutions / January nonsense, #BeHappy

1 Feb

Dear readers

I am sorry I haven’t been posting recently, I have been too busy settling back into the British winter after the holidays spent in Italy and Miami, I am back, for a bit, as usual.

The Christmas time back home with friends and family was amazing, good times, lots of laugher and lots of food involved…not that many people can say they had an 8 hours long Christmas lunch…I can! And when you are about to give up and say Thank you guys but we have been sat for 7 hours, ok the company is great but…And they stop you saying: Next course it the Italian cheesecake (gorgonzola, brie, mascarpone and walnut cake)…followed by panettone and pandoro with coffee mascarpone, what did I do? Just gave upend kept on eating!!!

Italians express their love with food, and that’s what my family does best and I love that, overindulging over Christmas is great but of course it can’t be the normal routine, but what about the pressure everybody gets put under between the New Year and the end of January? Resolutions, dry January, start working out, be kind to people, get better at something…I mean take it easy!

Life is all about balance, we only have one life so please enjoy and make the most of it…plus shall we talk about what happens at the beginning of January?! The release of fitness DVDs!!! Oh My Lord…is that something worse than that? Z-list celebrities who used to be fat and wobbly and suddenly they become gym bunnies, personal trainers addict, food connoisseurs and they tell you: I lost 3 stone, 19 kg, 42 pounds whichever weight conversion floats your boat, YOU CAN DO IT TOO, in the comfort of your living room!! Yes right people exercising in front of the telly in their workout gear, it will happen for a week and they will get bored and quit! Really I can do it too? And you would tell me what to eat too then to reach the perfect body? I don’t follow recipe books, I always add my own touch, let alone to listen to you whoever you are, famous or not, you ain’t a dietologist so why would I bother?!I am very happy with my height & my weight so please, social media stop bombarding us with Are You Beach Body Ready type of messages? Lots of people get sucked in!

Anyway this is my 1st February rant…I am sure I have posted something similar in the past few beginning of the years, this is what I think and I stick by…Italian Style!

Did I mention that I received a pasta machine for Christmas? I love it!!! So if somebody says No Carbs are allowed, my reply can only be one…bugger off!

And of course I am not criticising people who exercise a lot or go to the gym or whatever, not at all, I love fitness classes like body balance, pilates, yoga and body pump, I do lots of them once or twice a week, or once every fortnight it depends…I just get bored easily and I can’t stick to something that long, that’s why I like to do different things to keep me motivated, I do it just to keep busy and toned…but if I don’t do it for a day it ain’t the end of the world, I just go for an hour long dog walk/run, it’s always exercise!

Going back to the travelling side of my post…we had a great time in Miami over new year, as usual, and I seriously cannot wait to be back in a week to escape from the cold weather, it makes such a difference to have some sunshine in the winter, total mood lifting!

And now let’s just have a look at what went on in the past few months

Christmas and the holidays between Italy & Florida, going back to the cold British weather, birthday with friends & toddlers, and a dog photoshoot!

with love

The World Cup, the baking and the travelling…Anna in her wonderland is keeping busy!

15 Jun

Hello dear readers

I am so excited over the World Cup that you will not believe, I don’t normally care about football generally but when the World Cup is on I suddenly feel really excited and I feel for my country even more, especially since I have moved to England over 5 years ago…and how better could have the World Cup started for me? England vs Italy, oh my! Shame that my husband is not into football but it was so much fun to watch the match at home with British friends, I was cheering, I was screaming, I was dancing around…I was so happy that Italy won! And I am so pleased to go to visit my family in Italy this week, I haven’t been back since February and I seriously cannot wait to fly back!

I have started to go back to the gym since the Miami trip, with not much success…while I work out I think what I am going to bake later…is that good or not? And of course cooking is still my main hobby right now, the cashiers at the local grocery store might think I am mad, I keep on going in to get more ingredients for my creations! Anyway the summer is here and I must admit the weather has been great lately; hopefully it will keep on being summer!!

Anna in her wonderland in British winter mode, BACK TO FITNESS!

29 Jan

annainherwonderland back to fitness (7)

Dear readers

My last post was about how much good time we had in Miami over new year with my husband and my family, it seems so far away but it was only three weeks ago!

annainherwonderland back to fitness (5)

I finally recovered from jet lag (despite mornings are always hard for me, I am not a morning person is written on my sleeping mask!), me and Coco went back to our daily routine of walking and sleeping (I am talking about the dog not me!), lots of cooking, lots of experimental baking, lots of work on the wedding planning department (come to visit my website www.italianweddinginwonderland.com ) and after been lazy for a few months I started today my new training at a local gym followed by a trainer, only 30 minutes of workout but I feel good, and I set to myself that no matter what, I have to carry on and enjoy the fitness, the previous gym I used to go for over 2 years was great, gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, pool…but I wasn’t motivated to go and I had to cancel my membership at the end of the year…I loved the exercise today so let’s hope to carry on (that’s why it’s raining so heavily here today!)

I am trying to keep the motivation up so please allow me some motivation images!!!

Being 51kg and 168cm I do not need diets, I just need to keep busy and enjoy!

My husband has a ski trip scheduled for mid February and it will be great for me, that I do not ski, to go home and spend a week with family and friends, I cannot wait, plus after that it will be the Miami trip in March during the winter music conference and spring break, it is going to be busy!!

Have a great week you all

The ups and downs of dieting…crazy cravings, food obsession or more? I blame my vacation in Miami!!

2 May

superstickies (1)

I have been over indulging for 12 days, I cannot bare the idea to deprive myself of a dirty stinking burger and fries If I want to, ok the bikini started to feel a bit tight but as I said to my friends, more responsible than me…Sod it the diet starts on Monday when I will be back…but when I got back and checked my weight on the scale I wanted to bang my head on the wall…2.5 kg more (5.5 pounds), damn me and my food obsession!!!!

No reason to panic, let’s just start to cut down on alcohol first of all : I have been drinking a lot but that is what you do in vacation, you don’t drink a bottle of Corona and think : Oh yes this is already 148 calories…oh yes let’s pop the champagne at 10.30 am, which must be 5pm somewhere…and here we are another 89 calories per glass….  But as my dad would say to my husband when we stay by the seaside in Italy when the new bottle of Prosecco comes up…Holiday!!! (Or Vacation! for Americans)

diet

Anyway I am not 20 years old anymore and my metabolism is not as fast anymore so I am trying to go back on track cooking lots of fish, chicken, cutting down portions of pasta, never been crazy for chocolate and what happened?

I suddenly find myself obsessed with “I need a piece of chocolate right now”! I find myself on my iPad checking new recipes most of the day, and because I haven’t drunk anything alcoholic since Saturday night I started to crave even that….tonight we are going out for dinner with friends in town and do you know what I can’t wait to have? A Bombay gin and tonic before dinner!!!!

gin and tonic

1kg (2.2 pounds) has already gone down ( probably water retention)  and I still have a lot to work on. Luckily I have a crazy dog here that needs walking and exercise so at least I have to get out and walk a lot with Coco and listen to me….I went back to the gym today…please orchestra go on….we need to celebrate this rare moment!!

gym advice

And what about this weekend that we are going to visit friends in the Cotswolds? Fuck the diet let’s start again on Monday….actually on Tuesday because Monday is bank-holiday….thanks British calendar!!!

diet on monday

These are the signs I have been in one place for too long… In England for example, please get me out of here!

27 Oct

I think in the past few years I developed Gipsy brain, I need to change, to not get stuck into a daily boring routine…so anything that keeps me “trapped” into a routine drives me mad and makes me angry and I think, I just need to get the hell out of here!

After a month and few days at home I start to feel these symptoms…

I hate every other weekend go for dinner to a curry house/Indian restaurant…I have started to believe British people suffer of constipation so that’s why every weekend they want to…feel free again. Why can’t we go one weekend to a steak house and the week after maybe for a pizza and the one after, who knows just not plan it now!

I hate to admit this but I  have become obsessed with TV series, soap opera or reality show that keeps you “want to know what happens next”. Right now I am obsessed to know what’s next in Eastenders, British soap opera set in East London…will Ben leave jail? Will Janine come back to Michael? Will Sayd and Christian live happy ever after?

This is so wrong.

I hate think about I have to go to the gym, I need to get fit, I have to go in a least three times a week to achieve some results…I hate plan even this. I always think: I am leaving tomorrow and I want to look good…I do know it ain’t going to happen if I go for a workout once a week or every ten days…and always the day before going in holiday! Bikini test…failed.

I hate to go shopping and get the seasons confused…why I can find just coats and winter jackets in the stores?! I need a bikini and more flips flops…ops wrong timing!

Probably this trip to Miami again will make me go into a routine over there…no way in 10 days I can’t even recover from jet lag, let alone have things planned in advance…

Happy Halloween to everyone…I will keep you posted on how it will go over there!

Been working my ass off at the gym all weekend…now it’s time to fly to Miami!!!

4 Mar

We are finishing now to pack and tomorrow morning at 9.40 we are off to Miami for ten days, I cannot wait and I hope all the sweat at the gym is going to pay back…can’t wait for a bloody mary at the pool bar at the Mondrian, can’t wait to go for a walk on the ocean, can’t wait to go up and down the bay on the boat…come on I cannot wait until tomorrow!!

Nearly fainted twice at the gym today…once when I finished 20 minutes on the treadmill…and the other time when I walked inside the changing room and this lesbian lady was standing near the door talking to the personal trainer just on her knickers…nice!!!!

Luckily Pit-bull and Chris Brown were making enjoy the workout with this song…I am obsessed with!!
Hotter than Miami
I feel the heat

Going a few days back…have you seen me cooking on Friday night? Loved this new recipe, aubergines stuffed with pine nuts, tomatoes, spinach and mozzarella…!

Everywhere today has a different name, Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day, Mardi Gras…I just know it’s FAT TUESDAY and I’m on a fricking diet!

21 Feb

After 4 days of indulging and enjoying the time in Italy with my family and friends, yesterday I came back home to my husband, left a rainy Milan, got on the busiest Easyjet flight ever…does anybody work on a Monday afternoon instead than flying from Milan to London??

Came back to my gorgeous husband who bought for me a frog made of soap…I love frogs!!

Plus he cooked for me sausages and mash…just to go back to the British traditions, trouble is…I’m getting old, and despite my high metabolism I’m putting some weight on and I’m not happy. I’m probably 2 kilos more than my right weight…please do not slag me off I know it’s nothing but…I’m going to be in my bikini in 13 days lying down overlooking Downtown Miami so…I want my perfect weight back!

That’s why I just came back from the gym where I sweated my ass off on the crossramp…hopefully I’m going to lose weight not become a mini body builder with thick thighs … I just need to focus less on food and focus more on the gym and diet…without becoming like her!

BUT I am struggling today, it’s Martedi Grasso, or Fat Tuesday and I miss my Aunt Tina’s chiacchiere…and I miss dress up, and I miss the Carnival in Venice…OMG!!

Right…Anna just focus…and think about dinner time!!!

Anna in her wonderland the domestic goddess? I’d love to please!!!

9 Feb

According to the stats on my WordPress dashboard, looks like I’m doing pretty well when I talk about food and I post my dishes: I am pleased with this good result. Never wanted to run a fashion blog (as if I know something about fashion but … if someone wants to sponsor my shopping trip I can change my mind quite easily!!), the Moaning tag in the topic’s section hasn’t been created yet, so let’s just run day by day with what crosses my mind.

As you can all tell so far, I love to be at home and work from here, it makes me organized and it gives me the freedom to arrange my day as I wish plus it gives me lots of time for the gym and the cooking.

After nearly four days of ibuprofen I’m getting a bit better and after an healthy lunch I went to the gym after nearly a week this afternoon…only doing exercises for my legs and relaxing in the Jacuzzi afterwards, amazing!

Back home, time to use skype and having a cup of tea, an apple and a Lindor chocolate…I burnt 180 calories in half an hour so please allow me!

Going one step back I’d like to show you what I prepared for dinner last night.

Starters

Tomato and green pea soup.

Main course

Salmon fillets with crème fraiche cheese topped with breadcrumbs and lemon zest, roasted garlic potatoes and soy sauce and sesame mangetout.

Dessert…nothing I’m afraid, just a cup of tea and some chocolate (I’m not that good at baking I have to practise more!)

What’s up for tonight? I’ll keep you posted and I wish an amazing evening to everyone!

PS: Do you think I’m going to receive this on Valentine’s Day? 😉

Walking out the Spa in flip flops because the pedicure done when is zero degree C (or 32 F)…priceless! For all the rest there’s mastercard…pampering day!

3 Feb

So last night I left the post saying about my cake I had baked yesterday when I went back home…it was edible, I’m still alive, so is my husband…and as soon he arrived at home last night he wanted to taste it, and he liked it!! Am I turning into a domestic goddess? Not really!!!!

I don’t know what’s up with me, I’m kind of getting obsessed with food, looking for new recipes all the time, trying to mix up the ingredients I have in the fridge…well luckily I started to work out or with the amount of food I eat I will be so fat soon!

So the menu last night was chicken breast with crème fraiche cheese wrapped up in Parma ham and as side we had asparagus wrapped up in Parma ham…well I had to finish it anyway so the ham had a good use! I’m really proud of my improving in cooking, it always lovely to hear Kim going “MMMMMM” so do I!

Friday, freezing cold but nice and sunny again, did a short workout at the gym, had pedicure and eyebrows done, it’s so nice and warm in the spa that I thought: I will be fine, I cannot ruin the pedicure just done so I’ll go home in flip flops…wauuu…100 metres to arrive to the car and I was frozen!!!

What’s the best thing to do to warm yourself up when you get home? A nice cup of tea, and a piece of my cake…luckily I work out!!!

Have a good weekend everyone, enjoy!
