Come and dine with me…our own version! So many things to look forward to this weekend…I can’t wait!

27 Apr

Come Dine With Me is a popular Channel 4 television programme shown in the United Kingdom, produced by Granada Television (now known as ITV Studios) and first broadcast in January 2005. The show has either four or five amateur chefs competing against each other hosting a dinner party for the other contestants. Each competitor then rates the host’s performance with the winner winning a £1,000 cash prize. An element of comedy is added to the show through comedian Dave Lamb, who provides a dry and “bitingly sarcastic” narration.

The format has been taken up by many other broadcasters throughout the world…and by us as well. My husband and I, and a couple of good friends now instead than go out for dinner in swanky restaurants or local gastro pubs, we discovered the pleasure (and the effort) of inviting people around, experimenting new recipes and of course, enjoy the time spent together while enjoying an homemade dinner and a good bottle of wine. Last night was “the other couple come dine with me” and we really enjoyed dinner!

I prepared myself for lunch with just a healthy and big salad after have been to the gym (I am trying so hard in these days at the gym to be in shape for our holiday), been running errands all day and finally it was dinner time!

Salmon with asparagus and potatoes and cream pie…gorgeous!!!

Pudding was so good, I must admit I was a bit worried when I saw bananas going around the kitchen (I eat bananas only when they are green or I do not digest them), but my worries went away as soon as I taste the banana, cream and chocolate cake…so good…well done Joe and Becky, our turn again very soon!

I was a bit sad yesterday, after three years spent together my beloved car had to leave me…how can you get close to a car? I don’t know but I did!!! Goodbye Tinkerbell….

I have been working out again today and I probably I will do it again tomorrow and even on Sunday, I can’t feel my arms right now I’m struggling to write!!! Miami…here we come soon!!!I wish an amazing weekend to everyone!

Everywhere today has a different name, Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day, Mardi Gras…I just know it’s FAT TUESDAY and I’m on a fricking diet!

21 Feb

After 4 days of indulging and enjoying the time in Italy with my family and friends, yesterday I came back home to my husband, left a rainy Milan, got on the busiest Easyjet flight ever…does anybody work on a Monday afternoon instead than flying from Milan to London??

Came back to my gorgeous husband who bought for me a frog made of soap…I love frogs!!

Plus he cooked for me sausages and mash…just to go back to the British traditions, trouble is…I’m getting old, and despite my high metabolism I’m putting some weight on and I’m not happy. I’m probably 2 kilos more than my right weight…please do not slag me off I know it’s nothing but…I’m going to be in my bikini in 13 days lying down overlooking Downtown Miami so…I want my perfect weight back!

That’s why I just came back from the gym where I sweated my ass off on the crossramp…hopefully I’m going to lose weight not become a mini body builder with thick thighs … I just need to focus less on food and focus more on the gym and diet…without becoming like her!

BUT I am struggling today, it’s Martedi Grasso, or Fat Tuesday and I miss my Aunt Tina’s chiacchiere…and I miss dress up, and I miss the Carnival in Venice…OMG!!

Right…Anna just focus…and think about dinner time!!!

Cold weather, I’m bored, so why not think about food? As if I never think about food! Turning into a foodie in the wonderland

8 Feb

I must say I have started to enjoy so much the food section on WordPress, it makes me hungry just looking at and I keep on going, blog from blog…what is it wrong with me? Is it an Italian thing, am I getting old or what? I used to laugh at my parents and their friends when I was young and we were going in holiday in Liguria (homeland of Pesto), the town where we have our apartment has a nice high street promenade with designer shops and lots of deli (gastronomia), cheese shops, spit chicken roast shop (polleria), take away pizza slice (pizza al trancio) and even more shops that probably I forgot they exist, in the afternoon we used to go shopping and every food shop I had to shout to my parents and their friends “Come on How can you stare at food in a window?? Let’s go to see some shoes!”

But during the summer 2010 my world felt like it was turning upside down: I went back there  with my husband and walking around the shops, we did the same thing my parents and their friends were doing ages ago…staring at the deli’s window! So because I mentioned, I’d like to bring back some memories from that holiday.

Must be an Italian thing, must be a British thing I don’t know…but I cannot think about nothing else than: What shall I cook? Or shall we watch Masterchef, or Jamie Oliver, or Gordon Ramsay or Lorraine Pascale?

So, let’s face it, it’s freezing today and not even a bit of sunshine to light up  this Wednesday, zero degrees or 32 F…and not much going on, so shall I show you my latest creations? Why not?

Green soup from last night (courgette, green peas, cucumber and lemon thyme

My traditional lasagne (with a bit of chorizo in the meat to give that right kick)

And today for lunch, I fancied omelette, first one I make in my life…I didn’t look good but I assure you it was tasty (omelette with cheddar cheese, chorizo and tomatoes)

Feeling full now…cuddling up with my blanket on the sofa, cup of tea on the table…and looking at the wordpress food section…love being at home!

Please don’t let it snow! I hate the snow and I’m very proud … Anna in her winter wonderland after the weekend

6 Feb

Reading all the posts in Facebook over the last few days was so boring, pictures of the snow, pictures of cars stuck in the snow, pictures of snowmen. Fine, fair enough if was snowing, but unfortunately, or luckily, I cannot stand the snow!

Snow makes me grumpy, snow makes me stuck at home (I want an Hummer as next car not a Smart anymore), snow makes me colder than normal, snow causes so many problems the day after when it gets icy, snow makes airports to cancel flights even before it starts to snow (a third of all flights were cancelled before a flake of snow had fallen at Heathrow Airport on Saturday…ridiculous!), snow makes governments to make plans to invest so much money of tax payers to have all the equipment ready in case the snow comes, and when it comes…trains, flights, motorways…all a mess!

Maybe I should say I have never been skiing in my life and I probably never will, but I’m still convinced that snow looks beautiful in a ski resort, lovely panorama…but don’t take me there please…do you know what? In 29 days I will be again in the Miami sunshine, where I belong…so from the 5th March onwards please snow as much as you like in the Kingdom…I cannot care less!

Shall I talk about something else? That’s better! The weekend is over, I couldn’t sleep last night due to a bad back pain and shoulder probably caused by my new gym lifestyle…2days after the workout! I took care of myself last night with ibuprofen, Chianti red wine and spoons of Nutella…after a dinner cooked by me but all the ingredients have been chopped before by my husband…sorted out one of our Christmas present with all the wedding pictures, moved some pictures around…and got grumpy and fed up by the snow…

Monday blues? No way! Have a good beginning of the week everyone!

Walking out the Spa in flip flops because the pedicure done when is zero degree C (or 32 F)…priceless! For all the rest there’s mastercard…pampering day!

3 Feb

So last night I left the post saying about my cake I had baked yesterday when I went back home…it was edible, I’m still alive, so is my husband…and as soon he arrived at home last night he wanted to taste it, and he liked it!! Am I turning into a domestic goddess? Not really!!!!

I don’t know what’s up with me, I’m kind of getting obsessed with food, looking for new recipes all the time, trying to mix up the ingredients I have in the fridge…well luckily I started to work out or with the amount of food I eat I will be so fat soon!

So the menu last night was chicken breast with crème fraiche cheese wrapped up in Parma ham and as side we had asparagus wrapped up in Parma ham…well I had to finish it anyway so the ham had a good use! I’m really proud of my improving in cooking, it always lovely to hear Kim going “MMMMMM” so do I!

Friday, freezing cold but nice and sunny again, did a short workout at the gym, had pedicure and eyebrows done, it’s so nice and warm in the spa that I thought: I will be fine, I cannot ruin the pedicure just done so I’ll go home in flip flops…wauuu…100 metres to arrive to the car and I was frozen!!!

What’s the best thing to do to warm yourself up when you get home? A nice cup of tea, and a piece of my cake…luckily I work out!!!

Have a good weekend everyone, enjoy!

Workout, cleaning, painting, planning a dinner…and people think I do don’t a damn all day long!!

31 Jan

Being at home and a full time housewife seems an easy life, getting up late, going out for lunch, go to the beauty salon, cook something for dinner, well it’s not what I do!!!

I forced myself today and at 12.30 after have been working and cleaning I decided to hit the gym for my first session!!! Still have a bit of a cold but I’m getting better, my first 35 minutes of workout at the gym today I couldn’t believe! I do feel great now, but I’m sure I will be in pain tomorrow!

My husband asked me to do some paint, which I did, and now I was scrolling through recipe books to decide what to cook tonight, It’s not even 5pm but just reading through all the recipes I’m feeling so hungry! Luckily I decided to use the upstairs area as my office…because if I was in the kitchen right now I could have already attacked the fridge!

I had a visit this morning….a fox at the front door, I got so scared luckily I was inside! Still cannot get over the fox that last year mauled two babies in East London … ok this fox was tiny but still…I should ask for a rifle for my next birthday, so I can start hunting in the garden…foxes, rabbits, pheasant…Love the British countryside!!!

Have a good evening you all!

Recipe books and lifestyle resolution, what’s going on in my wonderland?

19 Jan

I’m feeling in a funny phase of my life at the moment. I’m 27, this year I will be 28, married, don’t want kids before 3 years time at least, I have a lovely husband that loves me so much, I have a family in Italy that would die for me and my happiness, I feel like travel all the time, I have lots of interested, I started to write this blog in august and I’m so happy about how much satisfaction it gives me, I am happy, I could not deny this fact, but…despite all, I still feel kind of “incomplete”, or not completely satisfy right now.

What can I do to spice up my life? I would like some changes, do something that will make me more enthusiast and passionate…I would even love being at home for a while just being an housewife full time, I would like to try to see how it will be like…despite after a few days I will feel so bored, I know myself! Or working more from home, at the end of the day once I have the laptop and the internet connection I can work from anywhere and no one needs to know!

But thinking about better, it would be good! I will maybe join the gym (never been in a gym in my life…I couldn’t do it if I work full time but if I will be more free…why not?), have breakfast with my husband in the morning, go to the gym, go shopping

(NOT CLOTHES SHOPPING…well maybe some days I can get the train to London…please anna focus!)

cleaning, washing, ironing, cooking….do you know what??? I should start to write a recipe book…no I’m not going mad thanks; I love to cook, so why not put on paper…or on Microsoft word my food creations? I’m a creative person when it comes to cook.

My husband if he has to cook follows a recipe without miss 1 gram of whatever goes in the recipe, I’m creative…so I need red onions to cook the Nigella’s recipe but I have only white onion with me? I’ll use the white it will be fine…my husband will tell me off!

Right…I’ll try this!! My husband after 3 years of my cooking is still alive without any health problem so I must be ok….will it work for me? Let’s see!

Anna in her wonderland cooking book from the heart of Northern Italy…Move over Nigella!

Sorry I’m already thinking too fast!

Cheers to the freaking weekend…one week to Christmas!!!

18 Dec

Hello everyone,

Just back from a lovely weekend spent with friends in Canterbury (Kent), based on lots of drinking and lots of fun with friends!!!

Still feeling a bit messed up, that’s why I’m reading on the Daily Mail online the best solutions to cure the hangover…they suggest cheese sandwich, tomato juice, honey on toast and bananas…I’m off to throw up!!!

I’ll show you my weekend in pictures, I hope everyone had a great weekend….and I can’t believe it’s only a week till Christmas!!!
The weekend started on Saturday morning with a full english breakfast at the Ditchling tea room, lovely!!

Dinner in Canterbury with friends, and after off to the Ballroom for some fun

Some girls  don’t have any class…decorated ugg boots!

Sunday morning…meeting everyone for another full english breakfast and off to see Sarah’s cupcake shop!!!

LOVE THEM!!!!

And off we went, back home, enjoying the fire in the living room…thinking about a take away curry for dinner to cure the hangover…AM I TURNING BRITISH??? PLEASE NOOOO!!! xxxx

An ordinary Thursday evening at home…ended in tears!

9 Dec

Food, food, food. It’s all I can think about after 6pm.

Luckily I’m thin and I have a fast metabolism, because I eat so much I should be 20kilos more!

Inspired by the cold and windy weather across the country, I fancied something hot and healthy, that’s why my food processor sometimes is my best friend! A few courgettes, green peas and lots of basil, mix all up and cook it slowly for 30 minutes, here we are my hot soup has been made! (Surely it’s much better than crisps, olives and peanuts as a starter…I take care of my husband’s health!)

After that, inspired by the pub dinner of the night before, I fancied chorizo, and caramelized onions, and spaghetti of course! Just adding some tomatoes and red vinegar, the dinner was so good!

That’s why I rock in the kitchen…Nigella move over please!!!

Just kidding of course…I’m creative, I don’t follow recipes, I have to add my own touch everything I do, and I haven’t done wrong so far, plus it’s a satisfaction hear that having dinner with me is always an adventure!!

My evening ended in tears not because something went wrong, sorry to make people worrying just to read the title of my post, I wanted to watch my favourite childhood movie, Edward Scissorhands, and it made me cry so much! Sorry, I’m a foodie, a softy, and a big kid!!!!

Have a good Friday you all…not long till Christmas!
