Simplicity, memories and love: the best mix for your food, wherever you are.

28 Mar

In the last few days probably still due to the jet lag I was struggling to fall asleep at night, lots of things were going through my mind and I thought about a few things I miss. I miss my family, I miss Milan, the city where I studied for 3 years during my time at the university, miss the sunshine, miss an afternoon snack, miss a slice of pizza while walking around the shops in town….so as you can imagine I am homesick, most of the time.

Maybe for this reason I started to look for traditional Italian flavour, very simple basic things that can make me feel more at home, some example?

Pane e mortadella – bread and large Italian cold sausage, it used to be an afternoon snack (or nearly a meal) during an afternoon of playing around with friends at the playground (as you can see my mind really went back more than 20 years ago)

My re interpretation of this amazing but basic meal? Pane, mortadella, cheddar cheese, salad…overlooking the fields, it made me feel like a kid again.

British people and American people have on their basic Mac & Cheese…discussable anyway because I am a proud Italian and I always like to make an argument over everything (that’s me unfortunately!). A basic Italian recipe to hit back? Gnocchi with gorgonzola and noci – gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts, classic, quick and so tasty!

After a day spent gardening, enjoying the weather, enjoying the sunset from the living room if you are not too hungry what the best thing you can do? Share dinner…spaghetti alla bolognese in one plate with two forks … THAT’S AMORE.

A very warm weekend is over, feeling depraved of an hour of my life!

26 Mar

It was a lovely and warm weekend in the countryside, I couldn’t believe my luck of being sat on one of the chairs I have been working on for the past few days in the garden! I have been doing gardening recently, can you believe it, I still struggle myself! The garden furniture are looking brand new after my jet washing, sanding and oiling…shame that doing that I broke a pot!! Shall we see some pictures? Why not!

poor pot…rip

experimenting new flavors, beetroot and creme fraiche soup

3 mushrooms risotto and peas…mmmm

Friday afternoon driving down to Brighton, horrible sea mist

Saturday night down to Canterbury for dinner…interesting toilets!

I have always known I am fiery!

Driving around the countryside on a Sunny Sunday

and what can be better than a few drinks in the sun and a pub lunch?

Feeling the spring, love the warm temperature….and I can’t wait to wear my new bikinis! H&M swimwear collection

23 Mar

I was still in vacation last week when my best friend Anna texted me: Dear friend, you must go to H&M, I just bought two amazing bikinis, pictures to follow! This week when I finally had a bit of time to sat down with my laptop, I thought: I’ll go to have a look and of course, I liked the swimwear collection immediately and I ordered 2 bikinis straight away, still waiting for them to turn up but there is no rush, I need them in 38 days! Do you want to have a look? These two are the one I bought

And this one is in my wish list…so pretty!

Going to hit the high street again today, lovely gorgeous day so why not go to the seafront and have a look at the shops? Have a great day everyone! And a great weekend too!

Spring is here guys, let’s enjoy! I feel like I love Lilac today!

21 Mar

What a gorgeous and warm day today. The weather at the moment is perfect, nice and enjoyable that I don’t miss the fact I am not in Miami anymore…I really feel the spring coming and I started to love spending time in the garden (hopefully not when the farmer is around…a bit noisy!), so after have been running errands today I treated myself with a couple of hours break in the garden, just me, a book, a drink and blueberries to eat! How funny my outfit today? Lilac havaianas flip flop, lilac Benetton jumper….I think I can keep my tan in this way!

Post vacation resolutions, wellington boots, the countryside and Happy Father’s day to my dad in Italy! An ordinary Monday in Sussex

19 Mar

Today is a gorgeous day in the countryside, the sun is shining, last night the temperature dropped again below zero but now you can only see the sun in a clear sky…completely different panorama than Miami but breath-taking in the same way!

I’m still struggling with the jet lag, I had to take sleeping tablets at for the past couple of nights, I tried a few times to count the sheep to sleep but apparently it doesn’t work for me…hopefully soon my biological clock will go back to Greenwich time!

Saturday was Saint Patrick’s Day, Sunday was Mother’s day in England, today is Father’s day in Italy…it’s confusing all these celebrations! Last night we had my mother in law for dinner to celebrate British Mother’s Day and my husband made an amazing roast beef, so that’s the proof that even English people can cook something more than fish&chips…

Today I’m trying to catch up a bit with work and everything after have been away: for some strange reason every time I come back home from holiday it feels like new year to me, you will probably wonder why…but every time, I create a post-holiday resolution, and this time I did it again.

My post-holiday resolution this time is:

Lose weight (I had the same must in the previous resolution but I lost only 800grams, which I put it back on, with interests, so still one mission to accomplish).

Find a creative part time or full time job to do….wedding planner, translator, writer…I don’t know but I need to feed my brain a bit more.

Start to learn Spanish. I feel so left out in Miami where 90% of the people speak Spanish…I’d like to have a least a basic knowledge of the language, not satisfied to know only two languages at the moment, I want more.

Start seriously to write a recipe book. I had this resolution in my previous list, I have started…but I still have a long way to go.

Anything else? I can’t think about anything else at the moment, but I think I have a few missions to focus on to keep myself busy for a while.

Do you like to see a different view for once? I put my wellies on and I walked for an hour in the fields, what an amazing feeling to feel the spring coming, luckily without hay fever yet!

Still have some good memories, vacation is over and we think about the good times! Miami I heart you

16 Mar

Touched down back to the UK this morning after some cranberry and vodka cocktails, the flight delayed and some Valium…never slept that well on a plane I couldn’t believe it!

I still have some good memories and still lots of pictures to show, so let’s start!

Good moijto at lunchtime in Coconut Grove, followed by a super good burger

My husband makes great moijtos…strawberry one from me!

Tuesday night is Delano night

on our way back…

Another night here, let’s get ready

meeting friends…and their dog!

the first time to a Cuban restaurant

White or red sangria?

After all this…it’s time for a Cuban coffee

anyone wants some chilli willy?

the weather was bad Thursday, why not have a nap?

The view on our way back to the airport

at the airport lounge … not ready to leave

A few random memories…how cute is molly? the dog at Grove Harbour

the view from the pool in a sunny day

peanut butter and strawberry…mmmm

and to end…party rock!!!

Sadly, time’s up! Leaving miami ain’t easy!

16 Mar

Sadly, I am at the airport, not ready to leave at all, as usual. Sat at the club america lounge, drinking my sorrows and waiting for a burger, I have to face reality, it’s time to go home. See you in six weeks gorgeous Miami.

Sunshine, wind, boats, rough sea, red skin…the vacation is nearly over…damn!

13 Mar

The time in Miami just goes so fast that I can’t keep up, I feel like someone is making my watch going faster than normal, trying to enjoy every single moment because soon it’s going to be over, don’t want to go back home! Talking about stealing my time, I did not know that the clock was changing this Sunday just gone. Woke up, 9am, I thought we slept longer than normal, checked my watch, oh stupid watch it stopped an hour ago!!! Kim’s watch the same…and we got more confused. Got in the car, the time was different again…we stopped a guy : Excuse me…what time is it? Did the clock change last night? YEP….he probably thought Stupid Foreigners!

Been boating around Miami, further up and down again to the sandbanks close to Key Biscayne…and unfortunately yesterday just after fill the boat up with fuel  something broke…back to the marina and bye bye boat see you in 6 weeks after she gets repaired!

Been again to our favourite local restaurant, Barceloneta, I love the food there as you can see from the following pictures! I promise I will keep the blog more updated when I go back home, here I’m still struggling with the internet connection…shame I won’t have much to say when I will be back! I don’t want to think about now…the only thing I am looking forward to is go back to visit my friend who just had a baby today, congratulations to Becki and Jonny and Imogen…I cannot wait to meet you!!!

We kept low profile for a few days but now that’s the weekend in Miami baby!

10 Mar

Hello guys,

Sorry for the delay on posting on the blog but we had quite a few kind of busy day, my husband unfortunately got food poisoning on Tuesday and he has started to feel better yesterday, so no eating and drinking out, keeping low profile and wait for him to recover completely, bless him! The weather hasn’t been good either for a few days so it wasn’t that bad not being able to do things around! But now it’s the weekend, the sun is shining and we are in Miami, how can it be better than this? I’m going to show you some pictures of the past few days!

Sunshine, strong wind, powerboats…that’s Miami baby!

7 Mar

Hello everyone,

Sorry I haven’t been posting for a few days but between the long flight, a busy and windy day yesterday and no internet connection at the condo I have been struggling! I love being back here, I do feel at home so much!

So far we haven’t done much, been in bed at 9pm for the past 2 days (damned jet lag), moved the boat for one place to another, via another one…hanging out with friends and drinking…haven’t had time to put my bikini on yet but the weather is not the best today anyway so…let’s wait!
